May 24, 2024

We’re announcing the release of Testnet Newton v2, marking a significant milestone in our journey to make AI a public good. This upgrade addresses the challenges encountered in our first version and introduces advanced features that enhance the overall performance and security of our network. Learn how Testnet Newton v2 is different and how it sets the stage for future innovations.

Testnet v1: What Happened?

Version 1 of our Testnet was a huge success in terms of participation and engagement. Over 600,000 wallets registered, thanks to great interest and support from our community. However, licensing issues forced us to upgrade the network comprehensively. Despite its success, we knew there was room for improvement.

Testnet v2: What Changed?

Testnet Newton v2 is built on free license software and introduces significant advancements over its predecessor:

  • Introduction of New Modules: The upgrade includes several new modules to the chain, such as data availability services and committee, which are critical for maintaining high performance and reliability. These modules ensure that data is always accessible, significantly boosting the efficiency and functionality of the network

  • Validator Selection Process: We’ve received over 33,000 applications from users to be validators, and after removing bots and noise, there were 2,500 active validators  – thank you for the amazing response! We have implemented an objective process to select validators, ensuring a fair and transparent selection. This process has been crucial in maintaining the integrity of our network, and we’re excited to announce the selected validator set! To learn more about the chosen validators, check out our Discord.

  • Enhanced Monitoring Services: To better track the activities of various services like storage nodes and key-value stores, we have developed a sophisticated monitoring service. This tool helps maintain optimal performance across the network.

  • Switched to 0GChain Naming Convention: To better align with our branding and vision, we have adopted a 0GChain naming convention. This change simplifies communication and documentation across our ecosystem.

  • Updated Storage Nodes: We support sharded mining and storage. Now, each storage node can focus on specific data shards to mine.

  • Mitigation of Faucet Abuse: We’ve implemented robust mechanisms to mitigate the abuse of our faucet system. These measures ensure fair distribution of resources and prevent malicious actors from exploiting the system, maintaining the integrity and balance of the Testnet.

Challenges with Testnet v2

While Testnet Newton v2 brings significant improvements, we also face a couple of challenges:

  • Plagiarism Detection: Ensuring the originality of contributions is an ongoing effort. We have implemented robust mechanisms to detect and prevent plagiarism, safeguarding the integrity of our system.

  • Validator Rotation Policies: Establishing objective yet flexible policies for validator rotation is essential. These policies need to balance the inclusion of new participants with the stability of the network, promoting a dynamic and resilient ecosystem.

Continuous Improvement

Testnet Newton v2 is just the beginning. We are committed to ongoing enhancements and excited about potential innovations this platform will enable. By addressing challenges with the help of community feedback, we’re building a robust and inclusive decentralized network. If you have any questions, you can use the Discord ticketing system to get help and support!
